Who is suitable for this certificate?
This is a post-beginner course for adults who have a strong grasp on the basics of English and would like to further improve their literacy and oracy to assist in job-seeking and further education.
​
This program is designed for students who have some existing English language skill and are looking to build upon it. It focuses on the development of simple English language speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for everyday communication and community participation to enable participants to move into further English language education or vocational training, or a combination of both, or employment.

There are no Prerequisites for this course.
What will I study?
Qualification Structure
You need to successfully complete 8 units of competency to achieve the qualification. The 8 units include:

1 core learning unit,

1 Speaking and Listening elective unit,

1 Reading and Writing Elective Unit

2 language skill electives, &
-
3 general electives

How will I study?
Study at FLN is face-to-face, in the classroom. There will be some work for you to complete at home too.
How long will I study for?
Length of certificate
Full time course attendance is 41 weeks, or one year. Part-time attendance is generally over 2 years. Please contact the office if you wish to attend part-time.

490 hours

Volume of learning
Total supervised learning time is 656 hours over 41 weeks, or 16 hours per week. You will also do approximately 1 hour of homework or out of class learning per week, including the school holidays, for a total of 697 hours of total learning.

Class schedule
9am-1:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday with a half an hour break.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment Structure
Assessment for each unit will take place towards the end of that unit’s delivery period. All units require at least 2 assessment tasks to achieve competency.

Can I get credit transfer?
If you have studied parts of this qualification, or a version of this qualification before, you may be eligible for credit transfer for units already completed. Please let FLN know if you think you might be eligible.
What will I recieve when I finish the course?
Certificates and Statements
Students who successfully complete this certificate will receive a Certificate of Completion and a Record of Results. Students who do not successfully complete all units will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units they successfully completed, plus a Record of Results for the other units.

Learner Pathways
Students who successfully complete 22639VIC Certificate II in EAL(Access) are able to continue their English study in 22640VIC Certificate III in EAL (Access). Some students may enter a Certificate III in both English and something vocational upon completion. Some students may be able to access employment upon exiting.
How much will it cost?
Students eligible for AMEP classes do no pay any fees. Skills First or Fee for Service students will have to pay some fees. Please visit our Student Fees page for more information.

All students who want to study at FLN will have to so a pre-assessment interview and assessment. This is to work out your eligibility, and to see which class is most suitable for your needs and aspirations.
